Digvijaya Singh Urges Madhya Pradesh Government to Provide DAP Fertiliser for Farmers

Bhopal: Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has petitioned the state government to ensure the availability of DAP (Diammonium phosphate) fertiliser for farmers, emphasizing its importance for a good yield of wheat, mustard, and pulses crops.

Expressing concern for the plight of farmers, Singh shared a video on his official X handle, stating, "MP farmers are facing a new problem every day. First, they did not get the fair price for their soybean crop, and now, due to the mismanagement of the government, they are facing the unavailability of DAP fertilisers. Our demand is that the government should provide DAP to the farmers so that there should be a good yield of wheat, mustard, and pulses, etc."

Singh further claimed that there has consistently been a shortage of fertilisers during the sowing season in the state. "There is always a shortage of fertilisers at the time of sowing in Madhya Pradesh. This happens because most of the cooperative societies in the state have become overdue, and the entire distribution of fertilisers, which was previously handled by these societies, has now been given to the private sector. Black marketing is prevalent, and the Food Department of Madhya Pradesh is not taking action against it. The administration takes its share and remains idle," he explained in the video.

He highlighted the significant gap in the availability of DAP fertiliser, noting, "There is a need for about 8 lakh metric tons of DAP in the state, but only 1.25 lakh metric tons have been made available. Until now, institutions have been supplying 70 percent of the fertilisers, but even in that, only 15 percent has been accessible. I have always demanded that fertiliser distribution should be done through cooperatives and the government system. Only then will we be able to distribute fertilisers honestly, as the warehouses of cooperative societies are located near every village. There is a need to change the system," he concluded.
