The post-mortem carried out at Agroha Medical College in Haryana's Hisar unveiled that former model Divya Pahuja had been shot in the head at point-blank range. After eleven days since her tragic demise in a Gurugram hotel, the 27-year-old's body was discovered in a canal in Haryana's Fatehabad district on January 13. This recovery was made possible by information provided by the accused Balraj Gill, who, along with an accomplice, had disposed of the body. Gill was apprehended at an airport in Kolkata last Thursday.

According to police reports, Pahuja was allegedly involved in extorting money from the hotel owner, Abhijeet Singh (56), using "obscene pictures" to blackmail him. The post-mortem examination revealed that Pahuja was shot at point-blank range, and her body has been handed over to her family.

The Gurugram Police, acting on information provided by accused Balraj Gill (28), recovered Pahuja's body from the subsidiary canal of the Bhakra canal in Fatehabad's Tohana. Gill, along with another person, had disposed of the body and was apprehended at an airport in Kolkata.

Identification of the body was made possible through a tattoo on Divya's back, visible in one of her old pictures. CCTV footage from Hotel City Point depicted the accused, including Singh, dragging Pahuja's body wrapped in a white sheet through the lobby. They later fled the hotel in a car with the body in the trunk.

In a twist to the story, police reported that Singh handed over the car, containing the body, to Balraj Gill about a kilometer from the hotel. The abandoned car was later found at a bus stand in Punjab's Patiala. Gill, along with another accused, Ravi Banga, had disposed of the body.

Earlier in connection with the case, four individuals – Abhijeet, Hemraj, Omprakash, and Megha – had been arrested. Notably, Divya Pahuja had spent over seven years in jail for her alleged involvement in conspiring a "fake encounter" of her partner gangster Sandeep Gandoli in Mumbai with Gurugram police and rival gang leader Virendra Kumar alias Binder Gujjar on February 6, 2016.

During Gandoli’s killing, Gujjar was incarcerated, but the plan was devised with the help of his brother Manoj, who enlisted Divya's involvement. Mumbai Police filed an FIR against five police personnel, Divya, her mother, and others. Divya was granted bail by the Bombay High Court in June 2023.
