Chandigarh: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted multiple raids in Sonipat, Haryana, related to the murder case of Punjabi singer and Congress leader Sidhu Moosewala. The 28-year-old artist was brutally attacked by eight assailants, firing 30 rounds, in Jawaharke village, Mansa district, Punjab, on May 29, 2022. The NIA's action comes after Moosewala's security was reduced a day before the incident. He was receiving threats from various gangs, including Lawrence Bhishnoi Group, for extortion, according to an FIR filed by his father.

The Lawrence Bhishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the attack through a Facebook post, citing Moosewala's alleged involvement in previous incidents. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwat Mann ordered a probe, leading to a joint operation by Punjab Police and a Special Task Force in Delhi's Tihar jails, detaining individuals linked to the murder. Six people were held in Dehradun, including one providing logistical support. During interrogation, Lawrence Bhishnoi admitted to his gang's role and revealed a prior unsuccessful attempt on Moosewala's life.

Bhishnoi disclosed that he wired money to a Canada-based accomplice, Goldy Brar, who orchestrated the murder plan. The Anti-Gangster Task Force, along with state and central police teams, made 23 arrests globally, including India, Nepal, Dubai, and Azerbaijan. Two shooters were encountered by Punjab Police, and widespread raids were conducted to apprehend Goldy Brar's associates. Brar, listed among the '25 Most Wanted criminals' and wanted by Interpol, remains a prime accused in Moosewala's murder.
