CHENNAI: Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan, a senior Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and former Union Minister, has quit the party.

She served as the DMK's deputy general secretary. On August 29, Jagadeesan submitted her letter of resignation to  M.K. Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu and president of the DMK.

The former Union minister announced her resignation from the party on Tuesday, citing her long-held desire to stop participating in active politics. Ms. Jagadeesan expressed her long-held desire to leave politics and stated in her letter of resignation that she was pleased that Chief Minister M.K Stalin was being recognised for all of his good works.

In a statement on Tuesday, she informed M. Karunanidhi, the party's then-president, that she was engaged in party activity and was striving to advance the party from the ground up following her term as an MP in 2009.

After Karunanidhi's death, she said that her only goal in party activities was to elevate M.K. Stalin to the position of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

The former Union minister said that the DMK clocked a great victory in the 2021 assembly elections and M.K. Stalin was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil nadu. She said that Stalin becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has given her tremendous satisfaction.

The big decision of the Deputy General Secretary comes a day after the party announced its fifteenth organizational elections and invited applications for various posts in the district units of the state.
