Chennai: DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran sparked controversy when he commented that Hindi speakers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar who come to Tamil Nadu end up doing construction work or cleaning roads and toilets. The remarks, captured in a viral clip, were shared by BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, who criticized INDIA bloc leaders from the two states for not condemning the DMK MP.

In the video, Maran compared English-speaking individuals to those who only know Hindi, suggesting that the former end up in IT companies while the latter engage in menial jobs. Responding sharply to Maran's comments, BJP MP from Patna Ravi Shankar Prasad asserted that DMK leaders should refrain from insulting the people of Bihar, who, he claimed, are compelled to migrate due to the state's conditions under Nitish Kumar, a member of their INDI alliance.

Shehzad Poonawalla accused the INDIA bloc of attempting to divide the country along the lines of caste, language, and religion. He criticized the alliance's "inaction" against the DMK MP, labeling it another attempt to play the "Divide and Rule" card.

The BJP leader deemed the language used by Dayanidhi Maran as "unfortunate" and suggested that the remark was not a coincidence when considering the actions of other leaders. He questioned the silence of leaders from the INDIA bloc in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar over Maran's statement, urging them to take a stand.

Highlighting another incident, Poonawalla noted that no action was taken against another DMK MP, DNV Senthilkumar, who had sparked controversy with a remark against Hindi heartland states during the Winter Session of Parliament.

Poonawalla also criticized Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for past incidents. He mentioned Rahul Gandhi's statement ahead of the Kerala Assembly polls in 2021 and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's defense of former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's divisive remark.

The BJP spokesperson listed additional instances involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's son Udhayanidhi Stalin and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. Udhayanidhi Stalin's comparison of Sanatana dharma to "dengue" and "malaria" stirred controversy, while an old video of Revanth Reddy making comments about his opponent K Chandrashekar Rao's "DNA from Bihar" resurfaced. Poonawalla concluded by asserting that the agenda of the INDIA bloc is to "divide and rule, insult Sanatana Dharma, and divide the people of the country."
