Durgapur: Condoms are generally used for safe sex, but a case of intoxication through this condom has come to light from West Bengal. The sudden increase in demand for condoms has worried the administration. According to a report, condoms are being sold at medical stores in Durgapur city as soon as they arrive. As per reports, some people are indiscriminately buying flavored condoms from medical stores located in City Center, Benachity, Muchipara, Bidhannagar, C Zone, A Zone in Durgapur district. When a shopkeeper tried to inquire about this, it was found that condoms were being used for intoxication. Shopkeepers says that earlier only 3-4 condoms were sold daily, but now the stock has started running out as soon as it arrives.

Shedding light on a concerning trend among students in Durgapur, West Bengal. Startlingly, it revealed their involvement in a peculiar practice—the consumption of flavored condoms. The report unveiled a disturbing process wherein these young individuals immersed the condoms in hot water, imbibing the resulting liquid, which allegedly induced a prolonged euphoria lasting up to 10 to 12 hours.

Understandably, this report instigated a wave of apprehension, prompting numerous speculations regarding the underlying motives driving the students to engage in such behavior. While some postulated that their objective was to attain a heightened state of exhilaration, others suggested that sheer boredom or curiosity fueled their actions.

Despite the extensive deliberations surrounding this matter, a definitive explanation remains elusive. Nevertheless, it is crucial to underscore the gravity of this issue. The consumption of condoms introduces the potential for ingesting harmful chemicals, with the added risk of infection.

Its use feels like intoxication. These are enough to make people addicted. According to Dhiman, the same aromatic substance is also found in the dendrites, so many people also use it as an intoxicant.

According to Nurul Haq, teacher, chemistry department, Durgapur RE Medical College School, soaking a condom in hot water for a long time breaks down the organic molecules present in it in the form of alcohol compounds. Some people get intoxicated by smelling it and drinking it. Let us tell you that a similar case also came to light from Nigeria, where suddenly the demand for toothpaste and shoes increased 6 times. It was also being used for intoxication. At present, the issue of intoxication with condoms remains a matter of concern for the Bengal administration.
