New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi described Indian para-athletes who are going to participate in the Tokyo Paralympics as "champions of real-life" and said they have to do their best without taking any mental burden, as new thinking does not put India pressure on sportspersons to win medals. After talking to the Indian contingent ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, PM Modi held nearly an hour-and-a-half conversation with Indian para-athletes on Tuesday ahead of the Paralympics starting August 24.
PM Modi asked questions about the challenges faced in the lives of divyang players, appreciated his family's contribution, and also tried to reduce the pressure on the players for good performance in Tokyo. PM Modi said in a virtual conversation, 'You are the real champion. You have overcome the crises in the game of life and have not allowed the practice to stop even in the troubles caused by the corona epidemic. You have portrayed 'Yes we will do it, we can do it. Medals are important as a player, but new thinking does not put pressure on India's players to win medals.'
PM Modi further said, "Do your best without any mental burden, without worrying about how strong a player you are in front of you. If you perform best in Tokyo with the tricolor, you will not only win medals but also give new energy to the resolutions of Anew India. I am confident that your enthusiasm and enthusiasm will create new records in Tokyo.''
