Mehul Choksi's repatriation stayed by Dominica court, Antigua PM says this

India's efforts to extradite fugitive diamond baron Mehul Choksi, the perpetrator of the PNB scam in Dominica, have suffered a setback for the time being. A Dominica court has banned Choksi's extradition. Choksi has been taken into custody while attempting to flee to Cuba. Antigua PM Gaston Brown had refused to withdraw Choksi and requested Dominica to send him directly to India but choksi's lawyers opposed it.

The lawyers told the court that Choksi is not being sent to India as he is no longer a citizen of India. Choksi's lawyers have already filed a habeas corpus petition there. He has said that Choksi had been denied legal rights and has not been allowed to meet his lawyers initially. On the other hand, the acting police chief of Dominica Lincoln Corbett said choksi will be sent back to Antigua and not India. Choksi Dominica is in police custody and is being questioned.

Assault charges: Janha It has been revealed that Choksi's lawyer wayne marsh in Dominica said, 'I noticed that Mehul Choksi was badly beaten, his eyes were swollen and several places were found on his body. He told me that he had been kidnapped at Jolly Harbour in Antigua and that he was brought back to Dominica by them. Choksi said they were from India.'

Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi have allegedly forged Rs 13,500 crore from Punjab National Bank. Nirav Modi is in jail in London and is fighting a case against his extradition. Choksi took citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda in 2017 using the investment citizenship program and fled India in the first week of January 2018. It came to light after the fraud case from the bank. Both Choksi and Nirav are facing CBI probe.
