Azam is currently mired in a huge controversy after he made a derogatory remark against his political rival from the Rampur parliamentary constituency - Jaya Prada.
He had said, "I brought her (Jaya Prada) to Rampur. You are a witness that I did not allow anyone to touch her body. It took you 17 years to identify her real face but I got to know in 17 days that she wears khaki underwear.”

In response to Khan's comment, an emotional Prada had asked whether she should die and then Khan would be satisfied. She also demanded that the EC bar him from contesting elections. Jaya told ANI, "He shouldn't be allowed to contest elections. Because if this man wins, what will happen to democracy? There'll be no place for women in society. Where will we go? Would only my death satisfy you? Do you think that I'll get scared & leave Rampur? (Keep hoping,) I won't leave.”
