Cyber fraud cases are on the rise in the country, and the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) is taking continuous action to curb them. Recently, DOT has deactivated 24,229 mobile numbers using 42 IMEI numbers. DOT shared this information on social media, stating that these mobile numbers were being used for fraudulent activities.
If you have been a victim of online fraud, you can file a complaint on the government website cybercrime.gov.in. You can report the incident without revealing your name. To file a complaint, click on the "File a complaint" option and accept the terms and conditions. Then, click on "Report other cybercrime" and log in as a citizen. Fill in your details, including name, email ID, and mobile number, and submit the form. You will receive an OTP on your registered number, which you need to enter to proceed.
You will then see four sections: General Information, Cybercrime Information, Victim Information, and Preview. Fill in all the necessary details, and submit the form after checking that all information is correct. You can also upload screenshots and files related to the case. After submitting the complaint, you will receive a message and email confirmation.
If you suspect someone's involvement in the fraud, you can provide that information as well. Verify the details and submit the complaint. You can also contact the Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930, which is a national helpline number. If you have been a victim of financial fraud, you can call this number and provide necessary details like name, contact details, account details, and the account to which the money was transferred. Remember, reporting cyber fraud is essential to prevent further damage. Don't hesitate to reach out to the authorities if you have been a victim of online fraud.
