Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India was born on this day. He was born on 3 December 1884 in Jiradei, a small village in Bihar. His father's name was Mahadev Sahai, and his mother's name was Kamleshwari Devi. His father was very knowledgeable in Sanskrit and Persian language. While his mother was a religious woman, she used to narrate stories of Ramayana to Rajendra Prasad. Dr. Prasad was married at the age of 12. His wife's name was Rajvanshi Devi.

Rajendra Prasad was the first President of independent India. When our Republic came into force on January 26, 1950, he was conferred with this post. In the first government formed after independence, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was given the job of Food and Agriculture Department as a cabinet minister in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's government. He was appointed as the Speaker for the framing of the Constitution in the Constituent Assembly of India.

Rajendra Prasad was one of the main disciples of Gandhiji, he was determined to sacrifice life for the freedom of the country. He is mainly named as freedom fighters. Rajendra Prasad was the main leader of Bihar. During salt break movement and Quit India movement, he also had to face jail torture. After becoming President, Prasad wanted to take a decision on non-partisanship and independently, so he retired from the Congress party. He used to give more emphasis for the development of education in India, he also gave his advice many times to the government of Nehru.
