STOCKHOLM: During his visit to Stockholm for bilateral talks at the European Union (EU) Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum (EIPMF), External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar talked with the Indian community there and emphasized the changes taking place in India.
For the duration of his three-day trip, Jaishankar will be in Sweden to take part in the EU Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum (EIPMF). "It was a pleasure to communicate with the Indian community in Sweden. As we celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties, I informed them of the development in our bilateral relationship, Dr. Jaishankar tweeted on Sunday night.
"Sweden is regarded highly as European Union member, a partner in the Nordic region, and a fellow multilateralist. spoke about the changes taking place in India that raise our international reputation and open doors for Indians living overseas.
The minister and his Swedish counterpart, Tobias Billstrom, had extensive discussions earlier and shared their perspectives on the Indo-Pacific, the geopolitical position in Europe, and de-risking the global economy.
This is Jaishankar's first visit to Sweden. The journey takes place as Sweden and India are commemorating their 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Currently, Sweden is in charge of the European Union Council. Jaishankar also had a "useful exchange of views on regional and global security" with Sweden's defence minister, Pal Jonson.
On May 13, he addressed the EIPMF during which he called for “regular, comprehensive and candid dialogue” between India and the Euroeon Union that is not just limited to the crisis of the day.
The overwhelming truth of our day is globalisation. Far away, though, nations and areas cannot be immune to important events elsewhere. We cannot pick and choose them either, Jaishankar remarked.
"The Indo-Pacific region itself is becoming more crucial to the course of world affairs... "A multipolar world, which the EU prefers, is feasible only by a multipolar Asia, and the more the European Union and Indo-Pacific deal with each other, the stronger will be the respective appreciation of multipolarity," he said.
The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles Piyush Goyal and the Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw will accompany the EAM as he travels from Sweden to Brussels for the first meeting of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council.
