New Delhi: Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu, appearing for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), on Tuesday said she hopes to get the support of MPs and MLAs of all parties in Odisha as she is the daughter of that state. Murmu, who has travelled from tribal leader to governor, said he received news through television that he had been declared the country's highest candidate for the highest post by the NDA.  

"I am surprised and happy," Murmu told reporters at his residence in Rairangpur. As a tribal woman from Mayurbhanj district, I never thought that I would be made a candidate for this post. He said the NDA government has proved the BJP's slogan "Sabka Saath Sabka Vishwas" by selecting a tribal woman.  

Asked if he would get the support of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Murmu said, "I hope I get the support of all the MLAs and MPs of Odisha. Biju Janata Dal has 2 in the Electoral College for the presidential election. More than 8% of the votes. He said, "I am the daughter of this state. I, being an Odia, have the right to most of all request to support me. Born in the Santhal community, Murmu started her political career as a member of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat in 1997 and went on and on and on became a minister in  the Biju Janata Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government in 2000 and became the first woman governor of Jharkhand in 2015. A two-time MLA from Rairangpur, Murmu had won from his seat in 2009 when the Biju Janata Dal broke the alliance with the BJP just weeks before the elections. In this election, biju janata dal had won a landslide victory.
