Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based Dr Reddy Laboratories has fixed the name and price of the anti-covid drug developed by the DRDO. Dr Reddy said she will sell the drug in the name of 2DG in the market. Its one sachet will cost Rs 990. According to the company, the drug will currently be sold in big cities, but will gradually expand. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) had approved the use of the drug in emergency on May 1.
The drug has been developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) of DRDO and hyderabad centre for cellular and molecular biology (CCMB). The drug has been named 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) and has been entrusted with the responsibility of manufacturing to Dr Reddy Laboratories in Hyderabad.
The drug was still being used only in select hospitals, but will now be sold to government as well as private hospitals. Dr Reddy has commercially launched the drug on Monday. This medicine is in the form of powder and its price of one sachet has been fixed at Rs 990.
