Mumbai: On August 8, an Indian passenger arriving from Addis Ababa to Mumbai was apprehended by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for carrying a significant quantity of cocaine. The seizure amounted to 1,496 grams of cocaine with an estimated market value of over Rs 15 crores in the illegal drug trade.

After the initial interception, DRI officials examined the passenger's luggage and discovered a white powder substance believed to be cocaine. Subsequent questioning and surveillance led to a meticulously planned operation that resulted in the arrest of a female Ugandan national in Navi Mumbai, who was the intended recipient of the contraband.

Both the individual carrying the illegal substances and the recipient have been detained in accordance with the NDPS Act, 1985, and have been placed under judicial remand. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover additional links within the drug supply chain.
