Kochi: The suspended IAS officer of Kerala cadre who drunkenly boarded a car on a journalist has received a major relief from the Kerala High Court. In fact, the local magistrate court had granted bail to the suspended IAS officer in the case, against which the opposition side had turned to the High Court. He had sought a stay on the bail order from the court. That was refused by the High Court. IAS officer Sriram is accused of killing a journalist while driving a car in a drunken state.

A bench of justices Raja Vijay Raghavan issued notice to Venkataraman on a plea filed by the Kerala government. The court posted the matter for further hearing on Friday. The judicial first class court in Thiruvananthapuram had granted bail to Sriram on Tuesday in the case against which the Kerala government had appealed to the High Court. At present, the amount of alcohol was found negative in the blood samples of Sriram undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram.

He was granted bail by the court after the police had submitted a case diary. In its appeal, the Kerala government alleged that 32-year-old Sriram tried to mislead the police and destroy the evidence of his drinking. Suspended IAS officer Sriram, a 35-year-old journalist from a Malayalam daily, was taken by car. Muhammad Bashir was killed on the spot. The case had sprung up as Kerala CM P.Vijayan had also assured justice to the journalist's family.
