Aizawl: Mizoram police on April 24 seized more than 5 kilogram of contraband drugs worth over Rs 10.00 crore and arrested a woman in the Aizawl district.

After receiving reliable input Aizawl District Special Branch (DSB) team seized 5.204 kilo  of crystal methamphetamine from the possession of a woman, a police official said.

Maria Lalrotluangi, a 42-year-old women, was staying at a relative's house in the Laipuitlang neighborhood of Aizawl when the drugs were confiscated, said officials.  Under the NDPS Act, an FIR has been filed at the Bawngkawn police station for further inquiry into forward and backward linkages.

More investigation is underway.

Earlier on April 23, Assam Rifles arrested one person in Mizoram and recovered psychotropic tablets and illegal areca nuts valued at an estimated Rs 7.66 crore in two separate raids.

The areca nut customs department and Special Narcotic Police Station CID (Crime), Aizawl, received the recovered shipment of tablets for further legal actions.
