Kolkata: To ensure the comfort and convenience of passengers during the upcoming Durga Puja festivities, Kolkata Metro has announced plans to extend its services and open additional counters. Kaushik Mitra, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Kolkata Metro, shared that the metro system will operate for extended hours, with a night-long service scheduled for Saptami, Ashtami, and Nabami on the North-South Corridor. In addition, the East-West Corridor will provide metro services until midnight.
Service Schedule on Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami
On these auspicious days, Kolkata Metro will commence its services early in the morning, ensuring a seamless travel experience for devotees and commuters.
First Service: The first train will depart at 11:55 am from Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector V, with the return journey from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah starting at 12:00 pm.
Last Service: The final trains of the night will leave at 11:35 pm from Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector V, and at 11:40 pm from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah.
Dashami Special
For Dashami, on October 24, 2023, Kolkata Metro will operate 48 services in the East-West Corridor from 11:55 am to 8:00 pm, providing frequent services every 20 minutes.
First Service: The day's first journey from Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector V will commence at 11:55 am.
Last Service: The final trip from Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector V will be at 7:35 pm, while the last service from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah will depart at 7:40 pm.
Expanded Services on the East-West Metro (Green Line) Corridor
Kolkata Metro is stepping up its services with 72 trains running on Saptami (October 21, 2023), Ashtami (October 22, 2023), and Navami (October 23, 2023). These services will run from 11:55 am until midnight, maintaining a 20-minute frequency in the East-West Metro Corridor.
Additional Counters at Key Stations
To accommodate the expected surge in passengers during Durga Puja, additional counters will be opened at several crucial stations, including Dum Dum, Sovabazar-Sutanuti, Kalighat, Dakshineswar, Rabindra Sarobar, and Gitanjali Stations.
Kolkata Metro's commitment to passenger convenience extends to pre-Durga Puja services as well. Presently, the metro system operates 288 services (144 UP and 144 DN) instead of the usual 234 services on Sundays. It is important to note that normal services will resume from October 25, 2023, after the conclusion of the Durga Puja festivities.
With these measures in place, Kolkata Metro is ready to serve the city's residents and visitors during the joyous and vibrant celebrations of Durga Puja 2023. Passengers can look forward to a smooth and hassle-free travel experience as they immerse themselves in the festivities.
