NEW DELHI: Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Arvind Ganpat Sawant said on Friday that there should be no reduction in employment opportunities in order to adopt e-vehicles. Arvind Sawant said that his ministry has received an order of 15,000 buses from 14 different cities to avail benefits under the next phase of the Fame program.

Minister Arvind Sawant said that some of the vehicle engine companies have told them that these engines require more spare parts, which will create employment opportunities in the vehicle industry. "There will be a decline in the number of spare parts in e-vehicles, thus, employment opportunities will also decline," he said. Sawant said India wants to create more employment opportunities.

Therefore, it should be taken care that the adoption of e-vehicles does not lead to a decline in employment opportunities. The NITI Aayog has planned to fully acquire electric vehicles for three-wheelers by 2023. With this, electric trains up to 150cc will be adopted by 2025.

The Chief Advisor in the NITI Aayog, Anil Srivastava said, the biggest problem in the move towards electric vehicles is to bring about a change in mindset. Srivastava also announced that the government may provide some financial assistance to some Indian battery manufacturing companies in the first few days.
