UNITED NATIONS:  S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, met with General Assembly President Csaba Korosi to conclude a day of hard diplomacy by assuring him of India's support and discussed global development and the UN's role.

On Monday, the day before the high-level Assembly meeting, he also met bilaterally with eight foreign ministers and took part in two multilateral sessions that covered issues ranging from security, food and agriculture, and the economy and development in a region that stretched from Indonesia to Trinidad.

In his meeting with Korosi and others, Aishankar reportedly made an effort to focus attention on issues that are extremely important to developing countries, such as energy and food security, the availability of fertiliser, health concerns, worries about the global debt, and issues with trade disruption.

Korosi and Jaishankar met, and Jaishankar tweeted: "gave him the utmost support of India. discussed the importance of the SDG agenda for global advancement. Indian experiences that were shared in that way." The UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 goals that must be accomplished by 2030 and address issues including poverty, the environment, education, and peace. However, the SDGs are currently in jeopardy due to the CoVida pandemic and the aftermath of the Ukraine war.

The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) President pro tempore Santiago Cafiero of Argentina, Mario Adolfo Bucaro Flores of Guatemala, and Amery Browne of Trinidad and Tobago were the participants in Jaishankar's first meeting of the day.

The source noted that India, for instance, ranked among the top five trade partners of Brazil and Argentina. The summit aimed to emphasise and further strengthen the burgeoning links between India and the CELAC countries in areas ranging from health and science to trade and energy. 

As per Cafiero's tweet, CELAC "reactivated the region's link with India after 5 years." In the Spanish-language tweet, he said, "The solidarity of the countries of the global south will make it possible to reinforce the energy and food security agenda, which is vital to the prosperity of our peoples.

The source said, Jaishankar's trilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of France's Catherine Colonna and the United Arab Emirates' Zayed Al Nahyan is in line with the modern trend in diplomacy, which has moved beyond bilateral and regional relations to interest-based groupings that span geographical regions.
