EAM Jaishankar holds talks with Argentine Prez on defence cooperation

BUENOS AIRES: S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister,  has called on Argentine President Alberto Fernandez and talked over measures for making trade ties more sustainable and ambitious and the potential for bilateral cooperation in defence and nuclear energy.

Jaishankar met with Economy Minister Sergio Massa and discussed economic cooperation after arriving in this country on Thursday for the penultimate leg of his first official trip to three Latin American nations.

"I'm happy to introduce you to @SergioMassa, Argentina's economy minister. I appreciate his optimism for the expansion of our economic cooperation" Jaishankar Tweeted.

After meeting Argentine President Fernández, EAM Jaishankar said, "Thank President @alferdez for receiving me. Conveyed the greetings of PM @narendramodi." They talked about strengthening bilateral cooperation, including making trade levels more sustainable and ambitious.

They also exchange viewpoints  on energy and food security, "both from the perspective of the global south and our bilateral ties." They underlined the significance of affordable healthcare, including pharmaceuticals.

Jaishankar is making his first trip to South America on business. He has already been to Brazil and Paraguay.

Jaishankar's trip to these three nations will give him the opportunity to continue high-level engagements with India's Latin American allies, look into potential new areas of collaboration in the post-pandemic era, and exchange opinions on bilateral and global issues, the Ministry of External Affairs said ahead of his trip.
