Port Louis (Mauritius): India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Mauritius on Tuesday for a two-day visit aimed at enhancing the special relationship between India and Mauritius.

This visit is among Jaishankar's first bilateral engagements following his re-appointment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third term. It highlights the importance of the India-Mauritius relationship and reflects India's ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’, Vision SAGAR, and commitment to the Global South.

Upon his arrival, Jaishankar was welcomed at the airport by Maneesh Gobin, Mauritius’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration & International Trade. "Namaste Mauritius! Thank Foreign Minister @ManeeshGobin for the warm welcome," Jaishankar posted on X, along with photographs. "Look forward to productive engagements to take forward this special relationship," he added.

During his visit, Jaishankar will meet with the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth, and hold bilateral discussions with other senior ministers. He will also engage with prominent Mauritian leaders. This visit will allow both countries to review various aspects of their bilateral relationship comprehensively, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi.

The visit reaffirms the commitment of both nations to further strengthen their multi-dimensional bilateral relationship and deepen people-to-people connections. Jaishankar’s trip follows the recent visit of Mauritius’ Prime Minister, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, to India for the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet and Council of Ministers. The EAM had previously visited Mauritius in February 2021.
