Kolkata: Tremors were felt in the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday afternoon. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 5.1 on the Richter scale. The tremors were felt at 12.35 pm on Tuesday. More information is still awaited in the matter. Earlier, an earthquake of magnitude four struck Assam on Monday.

According to the National Seismological Centre, the earthquake occurred at 1.13 pm yesterday, with its epicenter at a depth of 10 km in Kokrajhar in west Assam. People in west Assam and north West Bengal districts came out of their homes in fear following the tremors. The Northeast is in a high seismic region, which often causes earthquakes in the region.
