Tehran: Earthquake tremors of 5.9 magnitudes were felt in the Khoy City of Iran on Saturday (January 28) night. In this, 7 people lost their lives, while 440 people are said to be injured. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 10 km below the ground. According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, the tremors were strong and were felt in several areas in Iran's western Azerbaijan province. Since then government hospitals have been put on alert.

Local media has reported that it is snowing in some areas affected by the earthquake, where the temperature is less than 0 degree Celsius. The power supply has also stopped at some places. Rescue teams are engaged in restoring normalcy in the earthquake-affected areas. On 2 July 2022, a 6.0 magnitude earthquake shook Iran. The tremors of this earthquake were felt in neighboring countries Qatar and UAE as well as China. 5 people lost their lives and 44 people were injured in the earthquake.
