ED raids Shiv Sena MLA's premises, seizes properties worth crores

Mumbai: The ED has raided the premises of Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik in Maharashtra. More than 11 crore properties have been recovered. The raid is linked to the NSEL scam. The Enforcement Directorate said that the raid took place in the case registered under the Money Laundering Act (PMLA). In this, the property of Pratap Sarnaik worth Rs 11 crore was recovered. This includes his two apartments and a plot in Thane.

The Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police had registered a case against the NSEL directors, 25 defaulters and some other persons. Subsequently, the financial investigation agency, the Enforcement Directorate, had initiated an inquiry. In its statement, the Enforcement Directorate had said that the criminals had hatched a conspiracy, which had led to the fraud of the investors. In this, fake warehouse receipts, fake accounts were created. Through which the trust of about 13 thousand investors was broken.

The Enforcement Directorate has said that the money raised from the investors was invested in real estate by the members of NSEL. The work of repaying his old debts, etc. was also done. The agency had found that 11. Rs.35 crores was transferred to companies namely Vihang Enterprises and Vihang Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. Both the firms were associated with Pratap Sarnaik and his family members. The Enforcement Directorate said that assets worth Rs 3,254 crore have been recovered so far in the case. Of this, 3,200 crores were seized earlier. Pratap Sarnaik had been summoned several times in the past for questioning in the NSEL scam but he did not attend the interrogation. A money laundering case was registered against him.
