MUMBAI: The troubles of Islamic preacher Zakir Naik may increase further. The Enforcement Directorate has filed a petition against him in the Mumbai court. The petition demanded that he be declared a fugitive economic offender. Zakir Naik is currently taking refuge in Malaysia. The country's investigative agencies are engaged in extraditing Zakir Naik so that further action can be taken in the money laundering case after bringing him to India. In the press conference of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, commemorating the completion of 100 days of the second term of the Modi government, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had said that we want Zakir Naik back and an extradition request has been sent to the Government of Malaysia regarding this.

Naik was declared wanted in India in connection with serious terrorism-related charges after being named in the July 2016 terror attack at Holy Artisan Bakery in Dhaka. Zakir Naik was born in Mumbai. He has been living in Malaysia since 2017 after fleeing here and the previous government has also made him a permanent resident.

The current Malaysian government has not yet decided to send him back to India, but has stopped him from delivering his public speeches. Its activities are under the constant supervision of Malaysian authorities. Zakir Naik had made some racist remarks recently, following which Malaysia's Home Minister Tan Sari Muheedin Yasin said that no person is above the law of the country.
