Kedarnath: After the appeal of PM Narendra Modi, pilgrims, government and non-government agencies jointly launched a cleanliness campaign around Kedarnath Dham on Tuesday (May 31, 2022). PM Modi has thanked the devotees for this. He tweeted that this spirit of the devotees is going to inspire everyone for the cleanliness of the pilgrimage places. In fact, while talking about the mess spread by some pilgrims during the Char-Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, PM Modi on Sunday (May 29, 2022) had requested people to maintain the dignity of the pilgrimage sites.

According to reports, tourists also participated in the cleanliness drive on their way to Gaurikund, Sonprayag and Kedarnath. It is told that Sonprayag is situated between Rudraprayag and Gaurikund on the way to Kedarnath. According to Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mayur Dixit, the administration is continuously monitoring the status of waste management. As a result, the garbage spread in Kedarnath and surrounding areas is now being cleared. On Tuesday morning, the administration and employees of Sulabh International, an organization working on environmental protection of the district, collected tons of garbage from the Kedarnath area.

At the same time, Dr. Sarvesh Uniyal, an official of the tourism department of Garhwal University said that, 'These days, we are seeing huge influx of tourists at pilgrimage sites. Subsequently, a significant part of the environment is affected. People throw garbage and plastic here and there carelessly.
