In the lockdown, people made a little effort to eat and drink, a little gift of fresh vegetables. From Kashmir to the plains, the trend of kitchen gardening has increased rapidly. The ongoing lockdown to protect against Corona has changed the appearance of gardens, courtyards and roofs of most homes. Where previously colourful flowers like roses, daffodils and tulips used to bloom, now small plants of gourd, tomato, brinjal, ladyfingers and other vegetables are growing.

In this way, time is being well utilized and the concern related to the availability of vegetables is erased by getting fresh vegetables sitting at home. In Kashmir, as if people have given the shape of small fields to their gardens. Vegetables are being grown in every household. Tulip cultivators are also growing vegetables. Common people are growing vegetables in the house-courtyard by juggling seeds from relatives or neighbours and learning gardening on YouTube.

It was a vegetable growing custom, which had been forgotten, now its importance was realized by connecting it to the land. Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Sauragana resident educationist Farooq Shah has started converting the courtyard of his house into a farm. He said "Do not know how long the lockdown will take. Vegetables are a daily necessity, so if a vegetable that is ready to be stored in the house is better."
