Election campaign for the first phase of Kerala local body polls ended on Sunday evening without high-voltage due to COVID pandemic in Kerala. Polling will be held in five districts on December 8th, Tuesday. There are a total of 88.26 lakh voters and 24,584 candidates in these five districts.
The first phase of local body polls will be held on December 8 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Idukki districts. State witnesses a three-cornered contest with ruling LDF, Congress-led UDF and BJP-led NDA as major players. Rallies, marches and public meetings were replaced by virtual rallies and social media campaigns due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The electoral campaign was concluded this evening sans any rallies, marches and public meetings as the State Election Commission issued a direction to political parties to avoid high-voltage campaign and abide COVID protocol strictly.
As many as 88.26 lakh voters 41,58,341 male voters, 46,68,209 female voters and 70 transgenders will exercise their franchise on December 8. The fate of 24,584 candidates will be decided in the first phase. 6465 candidates in Thiruvananthapuram, 5723 in Kollam, 5463 in Alappuzha, 3699 in Pathanamthitta and 3234 in Idukki.
