Chennai: The Election Commission in collaboration with IIT Madras is working on developing a new technology in which voters will be able to exercise their franchise even if they are away from their constituency in another city or state. According to an Election Commission official, research and development work is currently being done on this project and its aim is to develop a 'prototype'.

This future initiative of the Election Commission is also expected to increase the voting percentage and decrease the expenses of conducting the election. The Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora had recently revealed in relation to this system that under this system of voting being developed with the cooperation of IIT Madras, registered voters in any state can vote from any other state.

Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Saxena has told that the voter will have to reach the designated place on the scheduled time to avail of this facility. This arrangement does not mean voting from home. It will take more time to vote from home, which will require highly advanced technology.
