Election commission team assess the preparedness of Assam for the assembly polls

Assam is likely to go to assembly polls in April. A six-member team of the Election Commission of India assessed the preparedness of Assam for the assembly polls. The team held a series of meetings with senior Assam government officials to review the preparedness of the elections. 

The  team including Dharmendra Sharma, Director General Election Commission of India accompanied by Narendra Nath Butolia, Senior Principal Secretary, P. Srivastavsa Director Expenditure, Kamal Agarwal Director IT, Vijay Pandey Director Law and Vipin Katara Consultant, EVM visited Assam from January 11 to 13th January, 2021 to assessed the preparedness of the forthcoming General Elections to Assam Legislative Assembly both at the district and the state level.

An official said, “Sharma asked officials to take several specific steps including training and selection of different categories of officials, identifications and categorizations of polling stations to take before the announcement of the assembly polls for smooth conduct of the elections." He said that the full EC led by Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, along with Election Commissioners Sushil Chandra and Rajiv Kumar, would visit Assam and West Bengal next week to take stock of preparations for elections in the two states.
