EC team to visit Bengal and Assam today amid assembly elections

Kolkata: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora will visit both the states along with other election officials on Monday to take stock of the preparations for the assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam this year. With Sunil Arora, Election Commissioners Sushil Chandra and Rajiv Kumar will also visit Guwahati and Kolkata.

According to information furnished by official sources, according to the schedule decided last week, the election officials will arrive in Guwahati Monday evening and leave for Kolkata on the evening of January 20. Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain arrived in West Bengal last week to talk to officials. This was Jain's second visit to West Bengal. Another election commission official arrived in Assam to take stock of the situation.

The officials briefed the election Commission on Friday about their visits to both the States. The Visit of the Commission to the election states before the announcement of the date of assembly elections is part of the routine, but the election Commission visited the state after announcing the date of assembly elections in Bihar. The term of assembly in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry is being completed on different dates in May and June this year. These states are to have simultaneous elections in April and May.
