For your information, the ministry, which was sent on July 17, cited a notification saying that electric vehicles should be registered in passenger vehicles and not to demand a permit. Earlier on October 18, 2018, the ministry had excluded electric vehicles from the purview of passenger transport permits, while several states had not complied with the notice and were asking for electric vehicles to get permits. According to the notification, this attitude will make it difficult to promote electric vehicles in the passenger transport segment. In the same way, the ministry has also advised states to reduce road tax on electric vehicles or exclude them from road tax for vehicle registration.

States that have not reduced road tax on electric vehicles should consider waive road tax to the maximum extent possible on all electric vehicles to reduce the initial cost of the vehicle for customers. It has also been asked to issue green registration number plates to identify electric vehicles to promote electric vehicles. Also, people in the age group of 16 to 18 years have been asked to license e-scooters. The ministry says the green number plate will enable states and municipalities to avail benefits such as toll charges and exemptions in parking fees.
