United States: In an effort to pull out of a crucial buyout agreement, Elon Musk has formally summoned a Twitter whistleblower to testify about spam accounts on the social network.

Musk attempted to back away from the US$44 billion deal, claiming Twitter had misled him about the amount of fake accounts, or bots. This prompted a vigorous denial and lawsuit from the social media company.

The Tesla CEO is hoping that claims made by former Twitter security chief Peter Zatko about serious security flaws and questionable company policies will support his position.

Musk's lawyers served Zatko with a subpoena on Saturday, requesting that he return any documents or messages related to the impact of spam and false accounts on Twitter activity by January 2019, according to court records provided Monday. Do it

On September 9, Zatko was also required to provide an on-the-record response to Musk's lawyers. An inquiry for comment was not immediately responded to by Zatco's attorney. The legal case against Musk's attempt to back away from buying Twitter has stalled.

Early in the case, Twitter prevailed, a fast-track testing date and a rise in its stock as analysts predicted the platform would beat the unsure Musk.

However, last week a US judge ordered Twitter to give Musk more information about the significant problem of fake accounts. The billionaire is now hoping that Zatco's whistleblower complaint will further raise the scales in his favor.

Twitter noted that Musk chose not to conduct due diligence typically associated with merger deals, but the billionaire's attorney, Alex Spiro, told a Delaware judge that he relied on the company's Securities and Exchange Commission filings (SEC) .

One of the recipients of Zatco's complaint was Market Watchdog, which accuses Twitter of making false statements about account numbers because "accurate measurements will damage the company's valuation and reputation if they ever go public."
