Tech billionaire Elon Musk has unveiled ambitious plans to build a colossal supercomputer, dubbed the "gigafactory of compute," for his artificial intelligence startup, xAI, according to a report by The Information over the weekend.

The supercomputer is slated to integrate 100,000 Nvidia chips and is projected to be operational by fall 2025, Musk announced during a recent investor presentation. Musk emphasized his personal commitment to ensuring the project meets its aggressive timeline.

According to The Information's report, Musk indicated that the proposed supercomputer would be "at least four times the size of the largest GPU clusters currently in existence," including those used by Meta for AI model training.

The field of artificial intelligence has become highly competitive since the introduction of OpenAI's generative AI tool, ChatGPT, in 2022. Major tech giants such as Microsoft, Google, and Meta, along with emerging startups like Anthropic and Stability AI, are all vying for dominance in the AI space.

Musk's xAI is currently developing Grok, a chatbot capable of accessing real-time information from X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, which Musk also owns.

Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but left the organization in 2018, expressing concerns about its shift towards profitability under CEO Sam Altman's leadership. In March, Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing it of deviating from its original non-profit mission of democratizing AI research.

OpenAI has rejected Musk's claims, dismissing them as dissatisfaction following his departure from the company and his advocacy for open-source development.
