THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - Kerala, The God'sOwn Country- Kerala Tourism is gearing up to launch a groundbreaking mobile application to enhance the state's pioneering initiative, 'Women-Friendly Tourism,' which was introduced by the government to promote gender inclusivity in the tourism sector.
With a vision to engage 150,000 women from the region, this project is being implemented in collaboration with various organizations, including UN Women.
The ultimate goal is to establish 10,000 women-led ventures and generate 30,000 employment opportunities within the tourism industry.
The initiative was unveiled by P.A. Mohamed Riyas, the State Tourism Minister, aligning with the principles of the UN Women's concept of 'Gender Inclusive Tourism.' This concept emphasizes the significant role of women in the tourism sector and emphasizes the development of women-friendly tourism products and packages.
Riyas stated, "We are witnessing a rising trend of women traveling to distant destinations either individually or in groups. Creating a conducive environment for female tourists is a top priority for the government. The Women-Friendly Tourism app will enhance the overall travel experience for women visiting Kerala, ensuring a delightful and hassle-free journey."
The Responsible Tourism Mission (RT Mission), the central agency responsible for implementing the 'Women-Friendly Tourism' project, has been assigned the task of curating the app's content. The app will serve as a comprehensive guide, offering location-specific information, captivating images, and insights into the socio-cultural aspects of various destinations in Kerala.
This mobile application marks the initiation of the project's second phase. In addition to providing details about popular tourist spots in Kerala, the app will encompass a wide range of information related to women-friendly tourism products and packages, including resorts, hotels, women-led enterprises, authorized tour operators, women tour guides, travel agencies, home stays, and more.
K. Rupeshkumar, the State Coordinator of the RT Mission, highlighted that the app will feature information on women-led handicraft and souvenir production units, along with amenities such as restrooms, camping sites, licensed houseboats, caravan parks, and authentic culinary experiences across various locations. Moreover, it will also showcase exciting festivals and offer experiential and adventure packages.
