Pulwama: An encounter broke out in South Kashmir's Pulwama district after midnight on Tuesday in which one terrorist has been killed. According to media reports, the encounter started late last night. It is learnt that a cordon and search operation has been launched at Usgam Pathri in the Rajpora area of the district following information about the presence of terrorists. Meanwhile, the militants, who were hiding as the cordon tightened, also tried to escape by firing. The jawans also evaded their efforts in retaliation. There was also a sustained appeal from the security forces for surrender. But the terrorists refused and stopped and started firing. Meanwhile, one terrorist was killed. The operation is currently underway. The entire area has been cordoned off by security forces.
Earlier, security forces have gunned down a Lashkar-e-Taiba Pak terrorist who had come to Rajori and Poonch with special training for terror incidents in the Bahramgala area on Tuesday. One of his companions has fled into the forest. Security forces have cordoned off the entire area. The operation against the terrorists continued till late evening. The slain terrorist has been identified as Abu Zarara from Pak. An AK-47 rifle, four magazines, a grenade, pouch, some rupees of Indian currency have also been seized from his possession.
Defence sources said, security forces, army and police came to know about the presence of terrorists in the Baihramgala area late on Monday. Army RR, SOG and Surankot police have launched a search operation in the area. The encounter with the militants has started as soon as the light rises in the early hours of Tuesday.
In no time, one terrorist has been gunned down. This is the 8th terrorist killed in Rajouri-Poonch this year. Abu Zarara was given special training in Pak to carry out terrorist activities in the southern part of Pir Panjal. It has been learnt that the defence spokesperson has said that Haji Arif, a notorious guide of terrorists, has also been killed in Rajouri sector earlier. Pak is trying to revive terrorism in Rajouri-Poonch. The role of the locals in killing Abu Zarara has been important. The terrorist was killed only after getting accurate information in time.
