Lucknow: In a significant move in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s administration has executed the demolition of a wedding hall built on government land. The wedding hall, known as Aija Marriage Hall, was constructed by Chaudhary Abdul Naeem, the President of Karhal Nagar Panchayat, by encroaching on a government pond. The demolition order was part of a crackdown on illegal constructions.

The action took place on Sunday, July 21, 2024, and was heavily guarded by four companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and local police forces. The demolition began at 10 a.m., with multiple police inspectors, station in-charges, and sub-divisional magistrates overseeing the process. The area within 300 meters of the hall was cordoned off, and no spectators were allowed on the surrounding rooftops.

The demolition targeted the main gate, an 8-foot high boundary wall, and the hall's bathrooms, with the upper rooms also being dismantled. The hall, named after Naeem's wife Farzana Begum, had been constructed on 0.283 hectares of land valued at approximately ₹2.5 crore. This action followed a complaint lodged by Sanjeev Yadav, a former Nagar Panchayat President, who accused Naeem of illegally selling plots on this land. The complaint led to an investigation and subsequent demolition order by the Chief Minister's Office.

Naeem, who had previously been an MLA from the Karhal assembly before becoming an MP from Kannauj, faced legal setbacks. His appeal was rejected by the court, and a notice was issued by the Tehsildar a week before the demolition.
