New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings to all the engineers of India on the occasion of Engineer's Day 2022. Expressing greetings to all engineers, PM Modi said that the nation is blessed to have a skilled and talented pool of engineers that contribute to nation-building.

PM Modi also reaffirmed that efforts are being made by the government to improve the facilities for students who want to study engineering.

"Happy Engineers Day to all engineers! Our country is fortunate to have a talented and skilled pool of engineers that are assisting in creating the country. Our government is trying to improve engineering education infrastructure, particularly by constructing more engineering colleges "said PM Modi in a tweet.

The prime minister acknowledged Dr. M. Visvesvaraya, who received the Bharat Ratna honour, in another tweet. He quoted a section of one of his earlier Mann Ki Baat speeches in which he discussed the issue.

"On #EngineersDay, we honour Sir M. Visvesvaraya's revolutionary contributions. May he continue to motivate new generations of engineers to excel. I'm also including a clip from one of the earlier #MannKiBaat shows where I discussed this topic" he said. Bhavna Tripathi, an engineering student from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, urged PM Modi to speak with engineers and engineering students in order to boost and stimulate their self-confidence on Engineer's Day in the given clip.

In response to her question, PM Modi praised Indian engineers. He siad, India has a history of inventive engineering that has "made the impossibly imaginable" possible.

"The Krishna Raja Sagar Dam on the Cauvery River, constructed by Visvesvaraya, provides benefits to tens of thousands of citizens and farmers. He is regarded with great esteem across the nation... Following in his footsteps, our engineers have established themselves," PM Modi added.

He also brought up the Kutch earthquake of 2001 and emphasised the need to design homes that were previously built with the local environment in mind, which used to keep people safe.

"While we celebrate Engineer's Day, we should consider our future and determine what needs to be done," he said.
"Today, managing disasters has become quite difficult. The world  is working extremely hard to lessen natural disasters. While we commemorate Engineer's Day, we should think about structural engineering and its curriculum, how to make construction eco-friendly, how to improve construction by adding value to local materials, and how to prioritise zero waste " PM Modi added.
