Abu Dhabi: England captain Eoin Morgan said on Wednesday that beating New Zealand in the ICC T20 World Cup semifinal here later on Wednesday would be a "hell of an achievement" for his injury-plagued side.

Morgan is aiming to lead his side to their third consecutive ICC final, but he will be without opener Jason Roy after he tore his calf against South Africa, adding to a list of injured players that includes Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes, Tymal Mills, and Sam Curran.

Morgan led England to victory in the 50-over World Cup final against the Black Caps on home soil in 2019 and also defeated New Zealand in the semifinal of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 before losing to the West Indies in the final. In their final match against South Africa, England lost their unbeaten record, but more importantly, opening batter Jason Roy was ruled out of the tournament, with Morgan claiming that his experience at the top of the order is irreplaceable.
