Piece of good news amid corona epidemic, 12.37 lakh people get employment in February

New Delhi: During the epidemic across the country, on the one hand, millions of people have lost their jobs. Similarly, good news has also surfaced that 12.37 million people have been employed in February this year. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has informed in this regard on Tuesday. EPFO reported that 20 percent of new subscribers were added in February as compared to last year (February 2020).

According to EPFO data on provisional payroll (employees hired on regular pay), 12.37 lakh additional subscribers have been added in February 2021, according to a labor ministry statement. The number of subscribers has increased by 3.52 percent in February as compared to January 2021. The Labour Ministry further informed that based on the year-on-year comparison, payroll data has increased by 19.63 percent in February 2021 as compared to February 2020.

Of the 12.37 million customers added during the month of February 2021, 7.56 lakh new members have come under the social security net of the first EPFO. In January, the number of new employers was 11.95 million. Even after the Covid epidemic, EPFO has added about 69.58 lakh subscribers in fiscal year 2020-21. During the fiscal year 2019-20, 78.58 lakh new subscribers were added, up from 61.12 lakh in the previous fiscal year.
