NEW DELHI: Swedish telecom equipment provider Ericsson has secured a major multi-year deal with Bharti Airtel, India's second-largest telecom operator, to enhance its 4G and 5G network infrastructure. The agreement involves deploying centralised Radio Access Network (RAN) and Open RAN-ready solutions aimed at transforming Airtel’s network.

Under the new contract, Ericsson will install advanced RAN technologies that will expand network coverage and increase Airtel's capacity. The company will also upgrade the software for Airtel's existing 4G radios, aiming to improve the customer experience.

“This partnership with Ericsson underscores Airtel’s commitment to network excellence. By deploying the latest technology, we aim to boost the speed, reliability, and coverage of our network, ensuring the best experience for our customers,” said Randeep Sekhon, Chief Technology Officer at Airtel.

Andres Vicente, Head of Ericsson for South-east Asia, Oceania, and India, said, “This extended partnership aligns with our shared goal of building a robust 4G and 5G infrastructure for Bharti Airtel. We look forward to supporting their efforts in meeting the evolving connectivity needs of their customers, including the new 5G applications that are on the horizon.”
