Truecaller, widely recognized as a favorite app for Android users, has often left iOS users wanting more. The primary reason? Its signature feature, live caller ID, was never available on iPhones. While iOS users could search for numbers later, the ability to identify callers in real-time was missing. However, this limitation has now been addressed. On Wednesday, January 22, Truecaller announced the rollout of its live caller ID feature for iPhones.
The long-anticipated feature was initially teased by Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedi in September 2024.Â
Although this is undoubtedly a much-needed update, it raises the question of whether it will significantly boost the app's popularity among iOS users.Â
Apple already offers a caller ID suggestion feature, which relies on data from messages and emails to identify potential callers. However, Truecaller sets itself apart by leveraging a more extensive database of phone numbers and identities, providing users with more accurate caller identification.
In addition to the live caller ID, Truecaller has introduced other features for iPhone users. The app can now automatically block spam calls and allows users to search through previously identified calls, going back as far as 2,000 numbers in the Phone app's recent calls list.
It is worth noting that the caller ID and number search features are exclusive to Truecaller Premium subscribers. Free users can still access the caller ID feature, but they will encounter ads while using it. On the bright side, the spam call auto-blocking feature is available to all users globally. The new live caller ID feature begins rolling out on January 22.
