VIENNA: The European Union (EU) has proposed a final text of the draft decision on reviving the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, Russia's chief negotiator to the Iran nuclear talks, Mikhail Ulyanov said.

As the permanent representative of Russia to international organisations in Vienna, Ulyanov tweeted on Monday: "The document must now be approved or rejected by the Vienna conference attendees. If there are no protests, the nuclear agreement will be reinstated."

After a five-month hiatus, the Vienna negotiations to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the agreement that put an end to Iran's nuclear programme, started up again this week.

Iran agreed to limit its nuclear programme in exchange for the lifting of sanctions when it signed the nuclear agreement with world powers in July 2015. However, former US President Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the pact and reinstituted unilateral sanctions against Tehran, which caused the latter to renege on some of its pact obligations.

The protracted negotiations to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action started in Vienna in April 2021 but were put on hold in March 2022 due to political disputes between Tehran and Washington.

Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should completely resolve the remaining safeguards issues "through technical channels".
