Kochi: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has called for a probe into allegations of nepotism in appointments to various posts in universities. In fact, the governor had stayed the Kannur University's decision to appoint Priya Varghese, wife of former Rajya Sabha member KK Ragesh, after which the tension between the state government and them increased. Varghese was to be appointed as Malayalam Associate Professor at Kannur University.

CPM leader Ragesh is also the personal secretary of CM Pinarayi Vijayan. The governor said in New Delhi that, 'from professors to lower level personnel, they want to appoint their relatives. Now I am going to get a comprehensive inquiry into the matter that how many such appointments have been made during the last two-three years. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan informed that he has received complaints from various sections regarding such appointments in the universities of the state.

The CPM had termed the governor's decision to stay the controversial appointment of Malayalam associate professor at Kannur University as "unconstitutional". Along with this, his allegation of 'nepotism' regarding Varghese's nomination to this post was rejected.
