On Sunday, with the seventh and final phase of 2019 Lok Sabha Elections concluded, the exit polls projected a clean sweep for the ruling BJP-led NDA alliance. As per the Times Now-VMR Exit Poll, the Bhartiya Janta Party is likely to win 262 seats and along with 44 of its NDA allies, form the government with a projected majority of 306 seats.

It’s bad news again for the Congress party. As per the Exit Poll resuls, the ‘Nyay’ promise has failed to deliver for the party – it is expected to win a mere 78 Lok Sabha seats out of the total 542 that went to polls between April 11 and May 19. The figure is, however, higher than the 44 seats that the Congress won in 2014. However, Congress’s UPA allies are expected to win 54 seats, taking the total coalition tally to 132. Others, including Mahagathbandhan players, are likely to win a total of 104 seats.

The poll of polls, too, has predicted victory for the NDA with 317 seats, while giving 110 to the UPA. Others are likely to win a total of 115 seats.

One important key takeaway from the Times Now-VMR Exit Poll for the Congress is that it may lose to the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan – states where it had formed the government late last year. The projections for these states show the Congress has not been able to build upon the gains that it made in the 2018 Assembly Elections. That implies a failure of the state leadership, to some extent at least. The Congress is projected to win just 5 out of the total 29 seats in MP; 4 out of 11 in Chhattisgarh; and 4 out of 25 in Rajasthan.
