According to an expert from Kolkata Hospital, the Omicron form of coronavirus is highly transmissible yet a milder variation than Delta.
Dr. Rupali Basu, MD and CEO of Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata says, "COVID's third wave has arrived. There will be an increase trend in the number of instances, followed by a gradual decline. When compared to the second wave, the severity of the disease is clinically less severe. So far, patients have recovered in five to six days."
"Fever and weakness are among the symptoms, which are similar to those of the flu. Some people may have a loss of smell and taste. Hospitalization will be reduced. Omicron is a mild variation that is highly transmissible. Although it is not as dangerous as the Delta variant, we must nevertheless exercise caution. In the previous 24 hours, India has recorded 90,928 new COVID-19 cases. The weekly positivity rate is 3.47 percent, while the daily positivity rate is 6.43 percent. With 325 more deaths, the total number of people who have died has risen to 48,2876. The Omicron variant of COVID-19 has been detected in 2,630 cases across the country.
Till 7 p.m. on Thursday, more than 85 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses have been provided, bringing India's total vaccination coverage to 149.57 crore.
