Washington: According to economists and observers, China's strong economic recovery will benefit other economies, highlighting its contribution to boosting the sluggish global economy.

Zambian social economist Kelvin Chisanga recently told Xinhua in an interview that the strong start to the Chinese economy this year portends excellent prospects for the economies of other nations around the world.

Chisanga praised China's fortitude in meeting the challenges, saying the recovery is evidence that the country is gradually overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic's negative effects.

China's GDP increased by 4.5 percent year over year in the first quarter, exceeding consensus expectations and representing the highest growth in a year, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics last week.

He added that the expansion of the Chinese economy has ripple effects, and other nations will unquestionably profit from the good growth. "In essence, when China is doing very well, we generally expect great growth in other regions," he said.

Javier Noriega, chief economist at the Milan-based Hildebrandt and Ferrar investment bank, echoed his comments, telling Xinhua that "without a doubt, good news from the Chinese economy is good news for other economies."

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently predicted that China will grow by 5.2% in 2023, up from 3.2% in 2018. The World Bank, on the other hand, anticipates a recovery in China's GDP growth to 5.1% in 2023. Both are within the official 5-percent growth target set for China.

According to Steven Barnett, the senior resident representative of the IMF in China, China will contribute more than one third of the world's economic growth this year.

Barnett told Xinhua that when China grows more quickly, the entire world benefits.

According to the IMF official, "as income rises in China, people in China buy more goods," which would increase imports and benefit China's trading partners. Chinese tourists have the option of travelling abroad, and the more they do so, the more money they spend there.

According to IMF research, every percentage point of growth in China boosts growth in other nations by 0.3 percentage points, according to Barnett. So this demonstrates the advantages of China's faster growth for the rest of the world, he said.

Some people projected even more optimism for the Chinese economy.

Murat Tufan, an analyst with Turkish broadcaster Ekoturk, predicted that organisations like the IMF and the World Bank would increase China's growth forecasts in the near future. "No one will be surprised when China will be the number one in the world with its growth performance in the next five years," Tufan said.
