Kochi: A flight from Kochi to Thailand was delayed by two hours on Wednesday,August 7,  after a passenger made a fake bomb threat during a security check at the international airport. The passenger, who was on Thai Lion Air flight SL211, was taken into police custody following the incident.

The Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) reported that the bomb threat was made during a routine security check. The Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) was quickly assembled at Terminal 3 at 2:00 AM to assess the situation. The committee concluded that the threat was non-specific. Nevertheless, to ensure safety, a thorough check of the aircraft and the passengers, who were all listed under the same Passenger Name Record (PNR), was conducted after they had deplaned.

"The passenger made the threat during the Secondary Ladder Point Check (SLPC) at gate 19," CIAL stated. "The BTAC met at 2:00 AM and deemed the threat non-specific. Due to the presence of other passengers with the same PNR, a comprehensive SLPC and aircraft inspection were carried out after deplaning. The flight eventually departed at 4:30 AM, causing a delay of two hours."

The involved passenger was handed over to the police for further investigation, according to CIAL.

In response to the threat, the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) met at 2:00 AM at Terminal 3. After a detailed evaluation, the committee determined the threat to be non-specific.

However, as a precaution, they ordered a comprehensive SLPC and aircraft inspection after all passengers had deplaned.
