Famous photographer Nemai Ghosh dies at the age of 86

25-year-old photographer Nemai Ghosh of Satyajit Ray breathed his last in Kolkata at the age of 86. Nimai Ghosh's association with Ray began during 'Gopi Gine Bage Bite' (1969). He was the on-set photographer of the master filmmaker until 'Agnatuk' (1991). Apart from capturing the iconic impressions of legendary stars like Utpal Dutta, Sharmila Tagore and Smita Patil, Nemai Ghosh was also known as a famous crosser of theater history in Bengal.

He did his camerawork extensively to document tribal life throughout India. The legendary lensman has authored books such as: Dramatic Moments: Photographs and the Memorial of Calcutta Theater of the Sixties to the Nineties, The World on a Canvas and Manik Da: Memoirs of Satyajit Ray.

He also served as a jury member for the National Film Awards in 2007 and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2010 for his extraordinary achievements. In 2014, his photobook 'Kolkata' was published by Amitabh Bachchan.
